These are the first steps...
I am really excited to write this post and share the latest project. Under the code name of Project Minerva, several Det students are helping me create a new kind of space game. By drawing on inspirations such as Star Trek Online, Artemis Bridge Simulator, and many more, we hope to create a very dynamic and interesting game of strategy and teamwork.
We are starting small with just a simple Star fighter flying around a star system. As we progress we will implement mission, enemy combatants, and even branch into multiplayer! One of the main goals we have is to incorporate different play styles and teamwork strategies. Our goal is to add progressively larger ship classes such as escorts, cruisers, and carriers to name a few. These much larger ships will move much slower than the agile star fighters but really pack a punch in weaponry. Also, to make things interesting, larger ships cannot be manned by a single player. The larger and more complicated the vessel, the more tasks need to be managed and coordinated. A large battle cruiser could take up to 5-6 players working together to manage it's wide array of systems.
We have a lot of fun things planned for Minerva, but we have to get to work! Stay tuned for updates as we get major milestones completed!
